About the Book
The Thunsil contains three pieces of work by Ronnie Govender, and is part of the ‘Pass on the Word’ series for youth. This collection consists of two essays and one play, all set in KwaZulu Natal.
About the Author
Ronnie Govender was born in 1934 in Cato Manor, KZN. He is a recipient of two lifetime achievement awards for his contribution to literature and the arts. Govender studied at Springfield Teachers Training College and worked as a teacher, and a part-time journalist. He wrote and directed his first play while teaching.
He has received a Commonwealth Writers Prize for At the Edge and other Cato Manor Stories. In 2008, Govender was awarded the Order of Ikhamanga and holds an honourary doctorate from the Durban University of Technology for his contribution to literature, and the arts in general, as well as his contribution to democracy, peace and justice in South Africa through theatre. Govender has written and directed more than 16 plays.
