Afrikaans translation from English. Penny and Puffy is a beautiful children’s illustrated story about love, caring and friendship. Penny is a penguin and Puffy is a puffin, who live as a family with Penny’s parents on Robben Island. Written by Zakes Mda and Mpapa Mokhoane, it was first published in 1999. Zakes Mda painted the illustrations that accompany the text, and Mpapa Mokhoane translated the story for the Sesotho edition. Although written for children, this book will delight and warm the hearts of readers of all ages.
About the Author
Zakes Mda is a writer, painter and music composer. He has published over 26 novels, plays and poetry, and his works have been translated into 20 languages. He has a doctorate from the University of Cape Town. He has received many awards and honourary doctorates in recognition of his work. Zakes Mda commutes between the USA and South Africa.
Mpapa Mokhoane writes fiction in English and Sesotho, for both adults and children. He is also an editor, translater and proof-reader. He completed his doctorate in African Languages and Literature at the University of Wiscon-Madison. For many years he was a lecturer in English at the National University of Lesotho. Since 1997 he has been the Deputy Chief Education Specialist in Languages at the Free State Department of Education.
