About the Book
With My Head above the Parapet is a record of Ben Turoks experience as a participant in the political life of this country since 1994. As an activist, Ben Turok has served the struggle for national liberation for over sixty years. As an intellectual, he has written prodigiously on politics, economic and development. This book reflects his engagement with politics and with ideas.
He served for two decades as a backbench member of Parliament, and provides a vivid sense of working inside it. Ben Turok has been an ANC MP for almost twenty years. He has been in the public eye most recently for his work as co-chairman of the parliamentary joint committee on ethics, when it investigated charges of corruption against the Minister of Communications, Dina Pule, and for his abstention from voting on the Protection of State Information Bill, which earned him censure from the ANC for his ‘counter-revolutionary conduct’. He edits the journal New Agenda.
