About the Book

Youth Rising is the first publication in the Batjha Kaofela series for school youth, to come out of the first annual short stories school competition held in 2016 as part of the JBF theme for the year (Youth Rising). This collection of 10 short stories speak to the experiences of many young people and include themes such as how to overcome peer pressure, Fees Must Fall and how black youth can make something of themselves in a society that is always pulling them down.

About the Author

The ten young authors of the selected short stories were selected from more than 80 submissions (as part of the JBF short story schools’ competition 2016) through a panel of external moderators. The authors all come from schools and OVC centres in townships that the JBF works with throughout the year.
