About the Book
This edition of Khanya Publishings The State of Social Movements in Southern Africa focuses on 20 years of the Khanya College Winter School, and brings together documents, articles and reports from two decades of one of the important moments in the history of post-apartheid social movements. As part of this series of publications, Khanya Publishing has been tracking the evolution of social movements since the end of the of the 1990s and early 2000s, and has assembled in the pages of this series documents and analysis articles produced by Khanya College and activists in the social movements of this period.
While not engaging in an analysis of the role of the Winter School, this edition of The Social Movements in Southern Africa, by putting together documents and analysis articles over the last 20 years, provides a basis for a much needed analysis of the role and place of the Winter School in movement building since its launch more than 20 years ago.
